our story

The Creative OTR is inspired by the therapeutic potential of art and play to support children and youth at all stages of development. Art-based activity kits and games are created to provide a fun and motivational approach to support each child’s strengths and support their needs. The kits can be used in multiple occupational therapy settings, schools, and home to promote skills that carryover for participating in meaningful occupations.

About our kits

  • The dynamic kits support multiple developmental skills including fine motor, visual motor, visual perception, gross motor, executive function, and sensory processing in a fun and creative way.

  • The art-based kits are developed through an occupational therapy lens. They are applied and refined to provide high quality products promoting developmental skills in a fun and engaging way.

Through hands on application of the art-based activities kits valuable experience and insight is gained from children of various ages, strengths, and needs across multiple settings. While the kits were in use, the greatest need for adaptation was observed leading to intentional upgrades, downgrades (adjusting difficulty level) and supplemental activities to support the unique qualities and goals of each child.

By bridging a kinesthetic hands-on approach with technology and fun themes these kits can bring a fresh and exciting perspective to promoting pediatric skill development.

  • The art-based kits facilitate children’s intrinsic motivation and occupational participation while also increasing efficiency for occupational therapy practitioners and documentation supports. The kits include:

    • supplies

    • complete activity guide

    • documentation supports

    • therapeutic benefits

    • supplemental ideas

    • flexible ideas to increase or decrease difficulty level

    • visual and written step-by-step directions

    • developmental skill guide

    • progress monitoring chart

To increase the flexibility of the kits to meet individual goals and needs, therapeutic benefits, upgrades, downgrades, and supplemental ideas have been applied and are provided with each kit.

  • Integrating art into OT sessions is an effective way to engage students in fine motor, visual motor, strengthening, and motor planning activities. Creating an art project that students could take with them at the end of the session or display on the wall was highly motivating for students. Art is a valuable tool to incorporate into school based OT sessions.

  • At my learning center, we recently did the bubble activity with our learners. They enjoyed the experience and watching the bubbles pop to create art. To make the activity accessible to everyone, we made several modifications based on each learner's needs. Elizabeth, who led the activity, demonstrated exceptional knowledge in identifying areas where the children can continue to develop their skills.

  • The creative games and art activities promote development of fine motor skills as well as logical thinking and social interaction. The students in my classes enjoy participating in the activities. These kits make fine motor fun!
